Attacker on top, holding arms
Demonstrator: Jenny Class: Women Level: Intermediate
Strategy: When a stronger opponent is holding you down, your immediate instinct is to push back up against your attacker.
You are never likely to have much success directly opposing a force stronger than yourself.
It is always better to try and unbalance your opponent and divert or deflect their energy.
The photos below show how this strategy can be used, if you are attacked lying down with your arms held.
Before you do this technique, bend your knees so you can push off the floor with your feet.
This will put you in a better position to execute the strong upward hip thrust, which is needed.
Instead of pushing up with your arms, pull them in towards you, along the floor suddenly, whilst at the same time thrust up with your hip and pelvis.
Be careful when you practise this, as the force with which you can catapult your opponent off is quite surprising. Photos: 1. Lying down with attacker on top, holding arms. 2. Pulling arms in & upward hip thrust. 3. Attacker unbalanced and thrown off. |
